About me

Sophie Citron

I am Sophie Citron, founder of this digital artist café „Romanisches Café“. I portray artists and introduce them to new audiences and create a space where art and artists from all different fields are worshipped.
A project, a platform is not formed overnight. Ideally, it unites your long-standing passion for something and something new is created from it. I love to get to know new people and places. Also, through my family history, I always come across Berlin’s history and have therefore often heard about the old artist café of the 1920s „Romanisches Café“.
It was important to me to combine something new with something historic. I started with the concept in the summer of last year.

My vision of the Romanisches Cafe is to become the most unique network of artists and humans who support and value each other’s work and creativity.

what our artists say

I want to be a part of the Romanisches Café because I think it is so important to support small businesses that come from a true place of love and passion and I think the idea behind it is brillant.

our concept

Something old, something new

The aim of this digital format is to give a spotlight for (new) artists around the world to share their stories through their talent and creativity.

By being part of this journey it should always remain a feeling as if you just shared a coffee with this person.

The story behind

Romanisches Café

History

The Romanisches Café was probably Berlin's best-known artists' meeting place in the 1920s. Everyone who was known or famous met here: poets like Else Lasker-Schüler, Mascha Kaléko or writers like Bertolt Brecht, but also painters like Max Liebermann. At the same time it was a place for newcomers, who were trying to start their careers by establishing their first contacts.
